Advanced Yoga DVDs

As my yoga practice has deepened, I’ve begun searching out more rigorous poses and series.

These DVDs are definitely not for beginners, but you don’t have to consider yourself an advanced yogi to jump in and work along with these presentations. If you’re up for a challenge and ready to be pushed forward in your practice, then this selection of more advanced yoga DVDs is the way to go.

  • Power Yoga DVD by Beryl Bender Birch
Power Yoga is heavy on the sweating. I love how this DVD pushes me to burn calories and become stronger and more flexible all the while helping me stay centered and relaxed.Beryl Bender Birch is a great teacher, and this is a great DVD to add to your collection.

  • P90X Home Fitness Workout ProgramP90X’s Yoga X
If you haven’t heard of P90X before, then perhaps you’ve been a little out of the loop–it’s one of the top-selling fitness programs and infomercials of all time. However, I will say this straight out: not only is P90X as a whole fantastic and absolutely deserving of its success, but its Yoga X workout is a beast. 90 straight minutes of yoga guided by P90X’s master of ceremonies Tony Horton. Yoga X isn’t for purists, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and intensity of the postures and guidance. Get ready to feel sore!

  • Rodney Yee - Advanced YogaRodney Yee – Advanced Yoga
Yes, the cover sais it all. Renowned yoga teacher Rodney Yee shares his personal routines with experienced practicioners. You get a 45-minute total-body, arm-balance workout. 20-minutes of hip opening routines, and a 35-minute pranayama sessions. You have to be pretty fit and strong for most of these asanas, but Rodney does a good job of demystifying these seemingly intense techniques. I do recommend a solid yoga base before you try some of these asanas out though, otherwise you could end up hurting yourself.

  • Tripsichore Yoga: Uniquely Advanced Vinyasa with Edward ClarkTripsichore Yoga: Uniquely Advanced Vinyasa with Edward Clark
Stunning photo of a perfectly executed asana opens up for a unique experience. Tripsichore has used asana as a theatrical vocabulary to perform stunningly graceful (and advanced!) dance-like productions that are pretty awesome to watch. If you’re ready for an extreme challenge and maybe something completely new in your yoga practice then look no further because this DVD will absolutely challenge your notion of what yoga can be. The DVD includes 5 1/2 hours in total: Six Tripsichore Yoga performance pieces, three full vinyasa practices and 90 minutes of special workshop material where technique and philosophy is covered.
