“The Ultimate Yogi” Review – 12 DVD Set by Travis Eliot
Think you’ve seen everything there is to offer in the world of Yoga DVDs? Feel like you could give Rodney Yee a run for his money, if only somebody would put you in front of the camera? Then Travis Eliot’s ambitious new undertaking “The Ultimate Yogi” may be for you.
Calling this a “Yoga DVD” doesn’t really do it justice. It’s actually a multi-faceted fitness, health, and wellness program which the producers claim will “transform your life over a 108-day period” – kind of like a P90x focused entirely on Yoga.
Like P90x, Ultimate Yogi is a comprehensive program that will guide your growth in every area of health and fitness. Of course there are the Yoga workouts – 12 roughly hour-long sessions emphasizing flowing power Yoga, but each focusing on a different area of fitness, such as cardio, strength, and balance. This is supplemented with guided meditation and mindfulness work in restorative sequences. There’s also an 18-minute “HardCore” ab workout. There’s also a Nutrition Plan to help you properly fuel your metamorphosis into a Yoga machine, a training guide, and a handy calendar structuring the program into a logical progression through three 26-day cycles of growth and recovery.
If you have the discipline to stick to a program like this, the results can be phenomenal. The 17 5-Star reviews on Amazon (with only one 3-star oddball preventing a perfect rating) speak to the kind of transformation you can expect:
“Prior to this program, I would have considered myself a beginner yogi, and now that I’m in the last phase, I feel as if my flexibility and strength have grown immensely. When going to a live class, I have no issues keeping up with my fellow practitioners whatsoever! Bottom line, it’s changed my life.”
“Is this a magic bullet? No. Will you become thin and beautiful? Maybe not, but you will feel wonderful inside. This 108 day program has truly changed my life… My results:
**I now weigh what I did in high school, for the first time since high school. And that was a long time ago!
**I am so much calmer than I used to be. I am usually a hyper person who can’t sit still and who is very impatient. Not anymore. When you wake up totally refreshed from a good night’s sleep, or having a deep massage is the closest I can describe how I now feel.
**My arms are toned like never before! There are more toned than when I was doing heavy weights. All the body weight work in yoga really works! Every one’s body is unique and will react differently to various types of training. Well, all the body weight work in yoga is what finally (!) gave me toned arms. I can actually see my shoulder and triceps muscles now.”
Conclusion: Several reviewers noted that The Ultimate Yogi was the best Yoga DVD program that they’d ever used – and in fact the production quality of the individual DVDs is so high that any individual DVD taken alone would still have ranked among the best Yoga DVDs ever made. That’s high praise indeed, but this is a unique and challenging program that takes home Yoga to an entirely new level. With 12 DVDs for just over $100, it works out to about $8 bucks a DVD even ignoring all of the extras, which also makes it an exceptional value. In short, The Ultimate Yogi is a must for any advanced-beginner to intermediate or advanced yogi looking to see how far yoga can take them. Not only will it advance your practice, it just may transform your body and mind—and isn’t that why we practice yoga in the first place?
