Amber Campion’s Yogaeira Review

Good: It’s a one-of-a-kind routine that will add flow and variety to your yoga practice for improved strength, coordination, and grace.
Bad: The production value is not as high as videos made by larger companies, so it’s set in a studio rather than an exotic tropical locale.

Amber Campion Yogaeira DVD review

What is Yogaeira?

Created by Amber Campion, Yogaeira is a blend of Vinyasa yoga, Thai bodywork, and Capoeira–a Brazilian martial art that is making its way across the globe as a fitness regime and performance art. This unique combination focuses on improving strength, balance, flexibility, and coordination. For a sneak peak, check out the DVD Trailer:

The practice begins with an emphasis on pranayama (breathing exercises) and includes some really nice stretches that are not especially common in yoga classes. Then it moves into Vinyasa flow to warm you up for the more rigorous moves like headstands and dynamic balance poses.

Yogaeira is a fluid and graceful practice that is perfect for enhancing dance performance of any kind, not just Capoeira. Amber brings depth and a playful spirit to her practice, incorporating spiritual concepts while keeping it practical and disciplined.

Take Your Practice to a New Level

This innovative sequence is great for intermediate to advanced yogis who want to add variety to their practice. Many of the poses are challenging and impressive, so this DVD is definitely not for beginners. Amber provides some extra instruction in the Special Features section, so it would be a good idea to watch the “Techniques & Transitions” tutorial first. As Brian S. describes:

“A new twist on the traditional practice of yoga and a great intro to some beginner Capoeira. The instruction moves quickly and is hard for some to follow the first time, but you will get up to speed the more you do it.”

Quality vs. Production

Amber Campion

Based out of Santa Cruz, California, Amber Campion has led classes, workshops, seminars, and retreats in the U.S.A, Canada, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Thailand.

Don’t expect this DVD to have all the bells and whistles of a high-end production company like Gaiam. However, the inspiring Brazilian music adds a nice groove to the practice.

The relatively lower circulation of this video means that it currently has only 5 reviews total on Amazon (all positive), but don’t let that stop you. The quality and substance of the practice are definitely top-notch!

Even seasoned yogis and yoginis will find Amber’s flowing moves fresh and inspiring. Holly says:

“This is an amazing DVD- it teaches you so much and will push you past your limits! Looking forward to gaining the strength and getting in shape with Yogaeira.”
